Instructors

Linda R. McMahan is a horticulturist with Oregon State University Extension Service. She received a doctorate in botany from The University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from American University. Although she was born and raised in Oregon, Linda has lived and worked in many of the nation's regions, becoming familiar with a variety of climate and soils.Amy Jo Detweiler tion to teaching and promoting native plants and water-efficient landscaping for more than 20 years.

Amy Jo Detweiler has been a member of OSU Extension Service horticulture faculty in central Oregon since 1999, with a three-county appointment serving Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties. She provides education in home horticulture, commercial horticulture and provides annual training and supervision for the local OSU Master Gardener Program. Her primary focus has been waterwise gardening and fire-resistant plants for home landscapes. She has a master's degree in landscape horticulture from Colorado State University and a bachelor's degree in biology from Westminster College.

Garden T-Shirt Designs

25 years ago before the internet, I started a little company that put gardening logos and funny sayings on T-shirts and caps and visors.
I actually sold thousands of these through retail outlets and two gardening shows. One show was at a large pier facility in San Francisco and the other was a gardening show at the fairgrounds in Monterey, CA.
Problem was my costs to have these printed up were more than I could get for them and I ended up going bust.
Too bad though. I had some terrific designs and some hilarious ones.
My stuff sold so much at these shows that the show promoter at the second one offered to buy out the rest of my stock ( at a cheap price

But the American Society of Landscape Architects Conference isn't the only opportunity for people to learn about sustainable garden design. The Boston Architectural College, which has a huge focus on green design, has courses in landscape architecture.
