Simple Japanese Garden Design 101

Designing our living place is more than just focusing on the interior. Outer spaces visible from our windows can be designed to have motion and variability as intriguing as the inside. For those craving a beautiful refreshing home garden but would rather a simple design better than full of flower style, you should put the Japanese garden design selections into your consideration. This type of garden design is popular even in the modern days for it is a long-lasting style to apply in any kinds of residential environment.

Nihon teien or Japanese gardens are traditional gardens that create miniature idealized landscapes, often in a highly abstract and stylized way. When planning on a Japanese garden design, there are several kind of styles since its founding you need to know.Karesansui or a Japanese rock garden or Zen garden is a meditation garden where white sand replaces water. Roji is the simple kind, rustic garden with teahouses. Kaiyū-shiki-teien, promenade or stroll gardens, is where the visitor follows a path around the garden to see carefully composed landscapes. And there is also tsubo-niwa, small courtyard gardens.

You don’t need to be confused of those tongue-twisting names of garden styles. To implement a Japanese garden design in your yard, the main idea is combining the basic elements of plants, water, and rocks with simple, clean lines to create a serene retreat. A fusion of moss, pebbles and rocks makes a tranquility of a zen garden. Or you can set up a pathway with some conifers on the side since they provide soothing shades of green for year-round. Add a stone pagoda lantern to enhance more typical Japanese nuance in the garden. Instead of a teahouse, create an intimate space in your Japanese garden with a pavilion made of bamboo or wood. A red leaved Japanese maple is seen in most Japanese gardens regardless the style of the garden. A zen, woodsy, koi pond, all match well with this tree as a decoration.
