Garden Style Online —studio 'g' garden design and landscape

Forest Temple Garden by width=There are many, many online places where you can find interesting items to furnish your garden. I have featured many of them here over the years. But as a designer there is one place that I use regularly that I haven’t really ever mentioned, and that is eBay. I’ve found vintage furniture, out of stock light fixtures, bargain (but fantastic) containers, accessories and even beautiful plants. Usually these items are one-offs (so I don’t tend to post them) but sometimes the source is a regular vendor that I can return to again and again if I need. But either way, there hasn’t, until now, been a good way to organize finds and keep track of types of things you might want to find again.

My upcoming book, is all about finding your own style and putting together a garden that is reflective of your own unique taste and environment. I can’t wait for you to see it and use it to inspire your own version of garden style. The book will present a huge variety of ‘looks’ and will not only provide inspiration but also help you build up your project to a look that is all your own.

Do you want a little sneak peek? I took a couple of the styles that I talk about in the book and gathered eBay collections around the ideas. I love that I can shop and put things together online in the same way that I blend offline in the form of mood boards or style stories.

Forest Temple is an option for a gardener who has a wooded garden (or wants to create one) and a penchant for the magic that a forest garden can contain. It is classic art combined with faux bois pieces and accessories that celebrate the materials of the woods. It is also permaculture and perennial vegetables, filtered light and mossy mushroom logs among other things.Hollywood Regency Garden by width= ollow along if you want to see more.

On the complete other end of the spectrum is the Hollywood inspired Regency Garden. This style is all about glamour, entertaining and eclecticism. It launches off the fantastical grottos and follies of 18th century Regency gardens and shamelessly layers in modern shiny things (think gilding, chrome and mirrors) along with elegant materials (bamboo, metal scrollwork…), some mid-mod styling and a bit of irreverence in the form of ceramic animals (and the like). The plants are blowsy and it tends to be a bodacious mash-up that comes together with careful editing. I’m constantly finding more pieces that might work with this sort of style and you can see them if you follow along.

I’m also playing around with ideas for my own garden. I have a Pretty Planters Collection that features containers that I think I might try and incorporate throughout my own garden. I am craving modern shapes and materials (with a few unexpected twists), black, and terracotta. I think it is working together – check it out and let me know what you think.

Disclosure: My eBay Collections were curated as part of a collaboration with eBay and Style Coalition.

NYC Metro Garden Design - Submit Garden Pictures

The purpose of this picture thread is to encourage everyone to submit pictures of and discuss gardening and gardens in the New York Metro Area.
One of the most interesting topics in the area is about Green Roofs. Because the area has such a high density of population, the NYC Metro area is considerably warmer than the rest of Zone 6. This is because of the heat from buildings and the lack of green surface area.
Because of this, there is a movement to build Green Roofs in Brooklyn and Queens.
Though Chicago has some projects on the forefront of technology transforming roofs into grow areas, there seems to be less of that happening here in our area
